Daphne x burkwoodii 'Carol Mackie'
Interestingly colored Zinnia. I love the dusky orange with hint of pink at the base of the petals.
Eupatorium coelestinum, Mist Flower, Hardy Ageratum
I'm a bit confused about the name of this Geranium. I thought it was Roxanne but I keep seeing references to Rozanne; Geranium 'Rozanne', The 2008 Perennial Plant of the Year. The flower looks different than the pictures I've seen of Rozanne but articles I've seen say Roxanne is a typo. ???
Floribunda Rose, Rosa 'Angel Face'
I love the look of Carol Mackie but she usually dies a quick brutal death for us. We do have better luck with D. odora, but it is not the temps that bother it. Usually it goes in poor drainage combined with periods of heavy rains, excessive heat and humidity.
ReplyDeleteHi Les,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunate that Carol Mackie doesn't do well for you. I tried a large specimen of a Daphne (I can't remember the name) several years ago with the same experience you had with CM. No matter what I did to save the plant, it just withered and died. Luckily it had a 1 year guarantee so I was able to recoup the $55 I paid for the plant.
I love the variegated leaves of the CM. As a German woman at a nursery said to me today, "any variegated plant is good". I can't argue with that.
I really love the mist flower.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, Ki. I just planted a CM for the first time this year and can't wait to see how it does in my garden.
ReplyDeleteHi Aunt Debbi/Kurt's Mom,
ReplyDeleteI agree it is a beaut. The flowers are on tall stems compared to Ageratums which is more interesting in form, in my opinion. Thanks for visiting.

Hi Carolyn Gail,
I had trouble with the first Daphne I planted so I was a bit skeptical that CM would do well but it has. I picked it because it's hardy to zone 5 ...and it has proven to be a vigorous plant though I did plant it in a sheltered, filtered light spot in the garden. I hope you luck with yours. Thanks for the comment. I own you a visit.
What a striking coloured zinnia. i also liek the lavender rose. the variegation on the Daphne is also attractive-I don't think we have that plant, here.
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteThere was only one Zinnia with that color in the whole large 1 pound bag of wildflowers. I should probably try to keep the seeds but it may not breed true since it probably will be cross bred with the other zinnias.
The Daphne is definitely not a tropical plant, hardy zone 5-8. It probably needs some cold to do well. Our plant remains evergreen throughout the winter so it adds color to an otherwise barren bed but we've had mild winters for the last two years and it may drop some of its leaves in a severe winter.
The rose is Floribunda Rose
Rosa 'Angel Face'.
Lovely post, Ki. I also have a gift ... my Easter Lily (bulb planted in spring after blooming) has re-bloomed! Happy September :)
ReplyDeleteHi Joey,
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing that your lily re-bloomed! I don't remember any of ours doing that. We do have some late season lilies blooming now, only because we bought them very late or they were potted late and are only blooming now. Thanks for visiting.
