The Mag. flowers are from the first stellata we planted and is now about 7 feet tall. I was coveting the tree which actually looked more like a shrub with multiple trunks at a Franks nursery (now unfortunately defunct). It was quite expensive but my wait was rewarded when it went on sale for 1/2 price. By that time the root ball was quite tattered with the burlap rotted so I was apprehensive about buying it but I took a chance. It started to grow immediately even though it was almost autumn. And now it's thriving and we're rewarded with the earliest of the magnolia blooms even among the other stellatas in the yard.

Hi Kim,
You know I never made the connection before either that the pieris and blueberry flowers looked alike until I Wikied pieris and saw that it was in the Ericaceae family. Mosses are great huh! Yeah I don't know what you call those things they throw up. I see some other kind that has reddish tassels. I'll try to take pictures of those when I'm dog walking...always seem to forget my camera.Kihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05576859749293959381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9695751.post-27974240659444436982007-03-29T18:35:00.000-07:002007-03-29T18:35:00.000-07:00Oooh... the pieris certainly does look blueberry-e...Oooh... the pieris certainly does look blueberry-esque in flower. I had never noticed that before! I LOVE your pics of the "blooming" moss, Ki. I pass some of that on my morning dogwalk every day, and it's just starting to throw up those yellow... things. :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14395380166485303934noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9695751.post-24748105044939485442007-03-29T09:31:00.000-07:002007-03-29T09:31:00.000-07:00If you hear a cooing sound don't look for a dove, ...If you hear a cooing sound don't look for a dove, Ki - that's just me looking wishfully at your Magnolia stellata.

Annie at the Transplantable RoseAnnie in Austinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14662139490401110432noreply@blogger.com
