How gorgeous! When we lived in Maryland we, too, had a Dawn Redwood grown from a seedling by our local nursery. We loved the elegance of that tree and had hoped when we moved to Florida we could grow one here as well. Unfortunately, it is not tolerant of salt air so I will have to just stand back and admire yours.
Hi Nancy,
It's too bad the dawn redwood doesn't grow in Fla. Ah but you can grow mangoes, avocados, papayas, gingers etc. all the things we used to grow in Hawaii. I'll keep posting pictures as the dawn redwoods grow. We almost bought a regular green leaf variety dawn redwood from the local nursery for half price in autumn but the tree was pretty ratty being out all summer in a small pot so we decided against it. It was a good decision because we now have the gold ones instead.
Hiya ki,
Mine is still in a container. I am hoping to keep it smaller that way. How much has your tree grown over the past three years?
Take a look at my 2008/04 entry in joco-serious sometime. This tree has such a great history.
